This Drain Descaling Kit is designed for removing hard scale, tree roots, and heavy deposits from PVC, metal, and ceramic 4″–6″ (100mm–150mm) pipes.

Description

This descaling kit is designed for the effective removal of heavy internal deposits in larger pipes, including 4″–6″ (100mm–150mm) PVC, metal, and ceramic systems. It is particularly effective against tough build-ups such as tree root intrusion, tuberculation, limescale, urine scale, cement, and tile grout that cannot be removed with standard jetting alone.

The system uses a circular chain design that works across the full inner circumference of the pipe. Unlike traditional chain knockers that impact the pipe wall in isolated points, this design distributes contact evenly, resulting in more consistent descaling and reduced risk of localized pipe damage.

The circular chains that come with this kit are suitable for removing soft blockages, but these chains have more links on the pipe wall at any given moment than a conventional drain cleaning chain. This gives them an advantage for descaling tasks.

Depending on the selected configuration, the kit can be used in PVC pipes using a less aggressive chain setup, or for metal and ceramic pipes using tungsten carbide reinforced chains for maximum cleaning performance. This makes the system suitable for both delicate cleaning work and heavy-duty descaling tasks.

  • Pipe diameter range: 100mm–150mm (4″–6″)
  • Pipe compatibility: PVC, metal, and ceramic (depending on selection)
  • Chain type: Circular descaling chains
  • Cutting options: With or without tungsten carbide bits
  • Crown drill head: 25mm/1" (included for metal/ceramic configurations)
  • Operation: Full circumference descaling action

The drain descaling kit includes:

  • Flexible Shaft with Sleeve, Friction Rings, Shaft Lock and a Spring
  • Drill to Shaft Adapter
  • Circular Chain DN100mm (4") - (depending on your selection the chains will either have tungsten carbide bits or not)
  • Circular Chain DN150mm (6")- (depending on your selection the chains will either have tungsten carbide bits or not)
  • Crown Drill Head without chains 25mm (only if the tools for metal/ceramics pipes are selected)
  • Shaft carrier (if selected)
  • Depending on your selection, the chains can either have tungsten carbide bits fused to the cutting edge, or in the case of PVC pipes the chains will be plain chains (without tungsten carbide bits). This prevents damage to the pipe wall of PVC pipes.
  • If you choose the option for both PVC and metal/ceramic pipes, then we will supply the kit with all of the chains ( 1 x 4" with bits, 1 x 4" without bits, 1 x 6" with bits and 1 x 6" without bits)

  • Please note that the flexible shaft carrier will hold a maximum of 30meters (98ft) of the 6mm (¼”) and 8mm (5/16”) shafts, 20meters (65ft) of the 10mm (⅜”) shaft and 15meters (49ft) of the 12mm (½”) shaft.
  • The carrier is not designed to hold more than 20meters (65ft) of the 10mm (⅜”) shaft and 15meters (49ft) of the 12mm (½”) shaft.

Important: Using an imperial Allen key may strip the set screws. We recommend using a metric Allen key instead.

A screw set with metric Allen keys can be found here.

  • Lubricate the shaft thoroughly as shown here.
  • Select the correct chain type for PVC or metal/ceramic pipes.
  • Connect the shaft to a drill using a drill-to-shaft adapter and set the torque limiter as shown here.
  • Insert the system into the pipe via an access point.
  • Rotate the shaft to engage the chain cutting action.
  • Slowly advance the tool through the blockage, allowing the chains to grind material away.
  • Use a camera if required to monitor progress in real time.
  • Remove debris and repeat if necessary until the pipe is cleared.

  • 5/16” (8mm) shaft is a lightweight shaft and is suitable for soft blockages such as grease. It is also our second most flexible shaft, making it a good choice for pipes with multiple bends, but not the best option for descaling.
  • ⅜” (10mm) shaft is less flexible and can usually pass through around 2–3 bends. This is a heavy-duty shaft that provides more torque and is suitable for both soft and hard blockages, as well as descaling.
  • ½” (12mm) shaft is our most rigid shaft and provides the highest amount of torque, but it is also the least flexible option.

Always lubricate your shaft before first use.
Please follow this link to learn more about why lubrication is important and how to lubricate your flexible shaft.

Do not use the shaft inside the carrier.

When operating, your shaft should be unwound to at least a 1m (3ft) diameter, which is the natural coil size where friction and heat buildup are minimized. Otherwise, friction and heat buildup between the shaft and the sleeve will significantly reduce the shaft's performance and lifespan.
