Description

The Mini Drain Chains are designed for effective cleaning and descaling of 38mm–50mm (1.5″–2″) pipes. They are especially efficient at breaking down urine scale, calcium buildup, and lime scale into small particles, helping to prevent re-blockages further down the line.

These chains are available in three different styles, each suited to specific pipe materials and levels of aggressiveness: X-tip, Croco tips, and Plain chain. This allows the user to select the most appropriate option depending on the application and pipe type.

1. The X-tip Mini Chain – These are our most aggressive metal tips. We don’t recommend using this style in PVC pipes unless you have extensive experience with these chains.
2. The Croco Mini Chain – These are less aggressive than the X-tip, but the hard metal bits are meant to be used in pipes with a harder surface like iron or brass. More experienced users also use this chain in PVC pipes by not keeping the chain stationary inside the pipe. The hard metal bits are perfect for descaling, or rasping away more solidified obstructions.
3. The Plain Mini Chain – This option is most suitable for PVC, as it does not have hard metal tips fused to the cutting edge.

While all mini drain chains are designed for smaller diameter pipes, it is important to remember that they may struggle around bends in very small pipes. Additionally, we do not recommend using our 6mm shaft in pipes smaller than 38mm (1.5″).

Navigating bends is generally easy once you get the technique right. Guide the chain through the bend using a combination of speed and forward/backward movement. This takes some practice, but it is similar to riding a bicycle; once you learn it, you won’t unlearn it.

Retrieving the chain is easier if you keep the drill spinning during extraction. The rotation helps the chain “bounce” through bends, while the rounded rear end of the hub allows the tool to glide more smoothly out of the pipe.
