Description
Before you buy this product, please consider that your Flexible Shaft Set already comes complete with a compression spring, friction rings, and a shaft lock. Many customers have written in to request additional springs, so for your convenience, we have included this as an individual product.
A flexible shaft naturally has small grooves along its surface. When the shaft spins at high speed, these grooves create a gradual upward or downward movement of the sleeve, depending on the rotation direction. This is normal, but if the sleeve moves too far away from the drill or drive end, the shaft may be less stable during operation. If the shaft suddenly meets a solid obstruction, the inertia can travel back up the shaft, increasing the likelihood of shaft kinking.
The purpose of this spring is to limit this movement. By placing a shaft lock on one side of the sleeve and a compression spring on the other, you can keep your drill-to-shaft adapter as close to the sleeve bearing as possible. The spring provides controlled, limited movement, only as much as the spring can compress, so the sleeve remains in the correct position during rotation.
Made from treated stainless steel, this spring is also useful in other applications. For example, when using multiple pipe cleaning brushes on the same shaft, a spring helps create spacing between them.
Additionally, when brushes are secured tightly with shaft locks, they tend to have less movement and flexibility when passing around junctions or bends. A compression spring introduces more flexibility, allowing smoother movement through the pipe.
